Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of domperidone in combination with omeprazole in the treatment of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) compare to omeprazole alone. Material and Method: A prospective and randomized study included seventy patients with a reflux symptom index (RSI) 13 or more. They received either domperidone 10 mg thrice daily plus omeprazole 20 mg twice daily or omeprazole alone for three months. RSI was assessed at baseline and after three months of treatment. Results: Total RSI as well as several subscores were comparable between groups before the treatment. After three months of the treatment, moderate improvement of total RSI was shown in both groups (72.7%, 67.5%). The reduction of total RSI and individual subscores were statistically significant within each group (p < 0.001 each). Comparing between each treatment group, the mean difference of total RSI and individual subscores did not shown any statistically differences (p > 0.05 each) at the end of the study period. Conclusion: Domperidone in combination with omeprazole is not superior to omeprazole alone in the treatment of LPR.
