The development of using fabric electrodes for lung ventilation imaging

Abstract
using the Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) in sitting position and exercising condition. EIT involves applying electrical currents and measuring the response voltages from electrodes positioned around the subject. These measured voltages were processed with inverse problem principle to find the conductivity change during respiration. To reconstruct an air distribution in lung, we created a thorax model. We placed 16 electrodes around the subject chest, between 4th and 5th of the intercostal space. The fabric electrodes were also pressed with a strap to increase the pressure and made firm attachment between electrodes and subject skin. The result of comparing the coherence of the graph between the respiration rate from the ECG Monitoring machine and the electrical voltage response from the Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) machine revealed that the conductivity change in both lungs during breathing can be easily observed. Moreover, the correlation between a reconstruction image and the respiratory rate was up to 80 percent on average. These experiments can prove that fabric electrodes can be used for lung ventilation imaging.
