Urbanization, income distribution, and environmental degradation: A case of COVID-19 economic crisis

Abstract

Due to the covid-19 epidemic in Thailand, the industry was shut down, and the population faced a significant issue. Since a medical emergency had been declared throughout the country, the Thai government was primarily concerned with medical facilitation. During covid-19, the lack of focus on urbanization and income distribution contributed to environmental degradation. This study aims to examine the relationship between urbanization, income distribution, and environmental deterioration in Thailand during the covid-19 epidemic. Using secondary data and a fixed effect methodology, this study determines the effects of urbanization, income dispersion, and environmental degradation during the covid-19 pandemic using secondary data. Over twenty-four years, from 1987 to 2021, information was collected from ten different ASEAN nations. To answer the question posed by the study, panel data analysis is utilized. If there are variations among the entities (countries, persons, etc.) and those differences, influence the dependent variable, the random effects model (REM) is utilized. The study concluded that urbanization and income distribution were significant challenges to Thailand's economic predicament. The theoretical implications of this study are significant since they solve a research gap. This study's practical ramifications offer a road map for enhancing the Thai government's response to the economic crisis and environmental deterioration. © 2022, Stowarzyszenie Naukowe Przestrzen Społeczna i Srodowisko.
