Abstract
Background:Stroke Rehabilitation Assessment of Movement (STREAM) is a clinical tool of movement assessment in hemiplegic patients. Thai version of the STREAM is essential for a consistent understanding of raters in Thailand.Objectives:To translate STREAM into Thai and evaluate intra-rater and inter-rater reliability and concurrent validity of Thai version of STREAM (STREAM-TH).Methods: STREAM was translated into Thai by using forward-backward translation method. Reliability and validity of the STREAM-TH were tested in 30 patients with stroke (average age of 54.37±11.56 years) which were recruited from Nakhon Nayok Hospital, Chophaya Abhaibhubej Hospital and The Thai Redcross Society. The patients were assessed using STEAM-TH and Fugl Meyer Stroke Assessment motor subscale (FM). The assessment was recorded by the video and the rater 1 and 2 evaluated the patients on the video using STREAM-TH twice, two weeks apart. Scores from both raters were used to determine intra-rater reliability and inter-rater reliability using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Rater 3 evaluated the patients on the video using STREAM-TH and FM to determine concurrent validity using Pearson correlation coefficient.Results: Intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of STREAM-TH was high (ICC = 0.967 to 0.992). Correlation between STREAM-TH and FM was also high (r = 0.88).Conclusion:STREAM-TH is a reliable and valid scale in assessing movement in patients with stroke.
