| dc.description.abstract | We show that the cluster model can be derived from the spherical shell model not only for harmonic oscillator interactions, but for much more realistic Hamiltonians as well, which have dynamically broken U (3) symmetry. This connection justifies a U (3) selection rule for cluster states, and its usefulness is illustrated in studies of heavy ion resonances. | |
