Abstract
This article examines the factors contributing to gender conflict in South Korean society, using historical methods in data analysis from research, books, articles, and electronic media. It analyzes the overall context of the South Korea society caused from changes in the social status of Korean women. which led to gender conflict in the South Korea society. The study has found that the social values influenced from Confucianism, which came to Korea since the Choson Dynasty (1392 - 1910) is the main factor contributed to gender conflict in the South Korea society. As a result, Korean society was shaped by gender inequality and patriarchal values was cultivated. Since the 1970s, South Korea began to develop into the modern society, the social status of South Korean women has gradually changed along with socioeconomic development. However, South Korean women have still faced gender inequality and oppression. This has led to the women’s rights movement, which is active in both the political and social sectors, aiming to creating a truly gender-equal society. The movement impacts to the old social values that are still deeply rooted in the society and that led to the gender conflict in South Korean society today.
