Purpose of review: This narrative review aims to evaluate the literature on triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries in athletes and may be used by practicing clinicians to aid in the diagnosis and management of TFCC injuries in athletes. Recent findings: There is no standardization in the management of TFCC injuries in athletes. Magnetic resonance imaging and wrist arthroscopy remain pivotal for the overall diagnosis and management of TFCC lesions. Summary: TFCC injuries in athletes pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to their complex anatomy and varied presentations. Clinicians must utilize comprehensive examination techniques and imaging modalities for accurate diagnosis. Treatment approaches range from conservative measures to surgical interventions, with return-to-sport decisions individualized based on injury severity and athlete needs. Despite recent advancements, gaps in knowledge persist, emphasizing the need for better diagnostic accuracy, refined treatment protocols, and development of predictive tools for optimal management of TFCC injuries in athletes.
