Abstract
Forearm Supination–Pronation
Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM)
Forearm Supination–Pronation
This engineering project aimed to investigate the use of muscle bioimpedance signals for predicting arm movement angles and applying the predicted angles to robot arm control. Bioimpedance signals were measured together with joint angle data from an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) while participants performed elbow flexion–extension and forearm supination–pronation under different muscle load levels. The bioimpedance data were processed to calculate signal changes, such as ΔEI and relevant features were extracted for load relationship analysis and as input data for a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model. The results showed that the bioimpedance signals changed according to the arm movement patterns, although variations among participants were observed due to physiological differences, electrode placement, and movement consistency. The combined LSTM model achieved a motion classification accuracy of 90.74%. For angle prediction, the MAE values were 1 5 . 9 4 degrees for elbow flexion–extension and 1 3 . 8 1 degrees for forearm supination–pronation. Robot arm verification showed that the servomotors could respond to commanded angles, with MAE values of 1.411±0.375 degrees for servomotor 4 and 1.274±0.033 degrees for servomotor 5. These results suggest that bioimpedance signals have potential for movement angle prediction and prototype robot arm control.
