Abstract

The research for this article aimed to study the history of Thai women judges during 2508-2517 B.E. (1965-1974 A.D.), which was the first period of women’s employment as judges. Key questions of the study were: what was the context in which Thai female judges were employed during 2508-2517 B.E. and what were the impediments to women judges during this period? The article is divided into four topics: 1) increase of women’s opportunities in law studies; 2) exclusion and opportunities for women to be judicial officials during 2471-2497 B.E. (1932-1973); 3) women’s rights, trends and movements during 2475-2516 B.E. (1932-1973); and 4) the employment of female judges during 2508-2517 B.E. (1965-1974). Historical methods were applied in this study to demonstrate the background and changes in female judges in Thai society during 2508-2517 B.E. (1965-1974).
