Abstract
To enhance a student's understanding of the general mechanisms and controlling principles of radiated and conducted emissions in power electronics, the educational laboratory experiments on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in power electronics are proposed. A switched-mode power supply (SMPS) is chosen as an example of electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise source. For learning concepts, key factors of both conducted and radiated EMI generation, including the controlling EMI principles of SMPS, are studied. There are five laboratory assignments and three laboratory assignments covering the topics of conducted and radiated emissions and suppressions, respectively. Proposed laboratory experiments are not only user friendly, but also strongly enrich design concepts of power electronic applications for EMC compliance to electrical students and engineers. © 2012 IEEE.
