We have demonstrated simple methods to determine the coefficient of kinetic friction using smartphone sensors. The experiments are easy to conduct and need no further apparatuses. The coefficients of kinetic friction obtained from the different methods are close, with an error difference of 10%. We expect that the experiments will be useful for physics teachers to demonstrate the measurement of the coefficient of kinetic friction. © 2021 American Institute of Physics Inc..
