GUIDELINES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION OF GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIOR AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN THAILAND

Abstract

Aim: This research is a qualitative study aimed at examining the guidelines for the development and promotion of global citizenship behavior among undergraduate students in Thailand. Methods: The key informants are the administrators who play a role in setting educational policies in the country, including university administrators and faculty teachers, totaling 27 individuals. The selection methods used were purposive and snowball sampling based on predetermined criteria. The tools used were in-depth and semi-structured interviews. Data were collected through document analysis and semi-structured open-ended interviews. The interview results were analyzed and summarized with content analysis through the triangulation. Results: The research findings are: 1) Understanding of global citizenship behavior among students. It involves responsibility towards society and the world, understanding and accepting diversity, having critical thinking skills, strategic analytical abilities, and promoting sustainability that impacts global society and future generations. 2) Guidelines for the development and promotion of global citizenship behavior include five strategies; aligning teaching methods with students in each class, having good examples, integrating global citizenship concepts into the curriculum, supporting the use of creative technology and digital media, and establishing networks with foreign universities. Conclusion: This is because developing and promoting global citizenship behavior among students is part of lifelong learning development that leads to sustainable development. Developing undergraduate students means laying the groundwork for becoming quality citizens.
