Abstract

The purpose of this research article is to study the development of ATM department store in Phahurad community in 1987 – 2003. ATM department store focused on trading fabric from 1987 to 2003 when it was closed down. This research is a historical approach, using evidences from newspaper published in 1987-2003 and in – depth interview with the local people living in Phahurad community and the officers working at ATM department store. Other evidences such as dissertations are referred in this research. The results of the research reveal that ATM department store was open in 1987 and was popular with customers who want to buy textiles to make clothes unlike other department stores which focused on wide variety of products. Later, ready – made clothes have become popular. Consequently, fabrics for making clothes declined their popularity. This can be a main factor why ATM department store was sluggish and eventually closed down.
