Abstract:
This research studied the roles of Her Majesty Queen Sri Bajarindra as the Regent of His
Majesty King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in 1897. The objectives were to study the reasons of appointment,
roles and performances of Her Majesty Queen Sri Bajarindra as the Regent of His Majesty King
Chulalongkorn (Rama V). In this research, the researcher applied the historical research method. The
data was collected from relevant primary sources and secondary sources, as well as field survey. The
research results were presented by descriptive analysis. The following was the essence.
In his first visit to Europe, His Majesty King Chulalongkorn appointed Her Majesty Queen Sri
Bajarindra to act as the Regent to oversee the state administration at the royal court. This was the
significant change on roles of the ladies of the court, a long-lasting effect until today. The Queen Regent
performed several duties of the King e.g. education, religion, public health sanitation and foreign affairs.
She could resolve the people’s problem and kept the country free from danger. The people then lived
happily. She worked hard to be accepted by all parties and finally achieved her goals. She strongly acted her role under the power domination of His Majesty King. It can be concluded that her royal
duties extended the roles of ladies of the court to act in the public. The Regent role of Her Majesty
Queen Sri Bajarindra was the role model for each era until present time.
