Abstract:
Communication via online social network has generated many graphicons. Stickers and
memes are popular graphicons among Thai social network users. This research aims to analyze
Thai users’ purposes of using stickers and memes and correlation between stickers and memes
in conversation in social media. The results show that stickers and memes have very distinctive
purposes of use, despite their similarity in expressions. Memes are mainly used for creating
funniness while stickers are used for communicating users’ emotions and feelings for
convenience in communication. Moreover, they are both necessary in online conversation on
social network. Nonetheless, the majority of users prefer stickers because they think that
stickers are more appropriate than memes.
