Abstract:
This engineering project aims at converting the current Body Comp Muf FR production line to be operated based on the concept of One Piece Flow, and increases its production capacity. Firstly, production sequences of the product, that consists of press line and assembly and welding line, are outlined. Seven wastes are analyzed theoretically using Value Stream Mapping (VSM). Then, lean tools are applied to make changes to the production line to the One Piece Flow system. Flow process charts and ECRS techniques are subsequently applied to analyze steps of the process and to reduce wastes in the new process. The layout of line section, assembly and welding stations, are relocated so as to allow the best of continuous single piece flow. In addition, kanban concept is implemented to all stations, as a visualized signal, for managing the flow and at the same
time balancing the demand. Final experiment reveals that the operation time is reduced from 77 seconds to 46.3 seconds, while the average transportation time is reduced from 24.95 seconds to 6.34 seconds. The overall capacity is therefore scaling up by 16.67%, to 560 pieces per day. The area utilization of the line is increased at around 50%.
