Abstract:
The objective of this engineering project is to set an assembly line for a new model of load break switch product. The required production rate is set to the level of 15 panels per day or higher. Partial information for the specific product is available regarding their experience in assembling of similar products. The study therefore considers a predefined procedure to apply a series of Industrial Engineering techniques such as Operation Process Charts, Time Study, Work Instructions and Line Balancing Method. The study reveals that
the prototype product requires 2 2 assembly processes. Therefore, a set of work instructions are created to guarantee the complete production. Set of standard time are then derived for the associated processes. Finally, the method of line balancing is applied to arrange the structure of the assembly line into 11 work stations, 14 operating staffs, and 5 machines. Post-experiment shows that the designed assembly line have the workload
efficiency at 92.86 percent, with the theoretical balance delay of 7.14 percent. Production output is at 16 panels per day which conforms to the target level of the new switch model.
