Abstract:
This research aims at studying attitudes and viewpoints of university’s students towards corruption and examining factors which can cause students to have different attitudes in order to draw lessons and develop learning skill and cultivate students about attitudes towards corruption. Survey among Srinakharinwirot Universtity’s students who were attending bachelor degree. The sample group was 408 students who were randomly selected. The results are as follows: 1. The students receive information about corruption problem, have knowledge and understand causes of corruption and can differentiate which behavior or action means corruption, and have attitudes toward corruption at the high level. The students acknowledge corruption’s behavior at the moderate level. The students consider that the university should cultivate corruption problems at the moderate level. The students want the university to take part in solving corruption problems and want government agencies to solve corruption problem at the high level. 2. Demographic survey reveals that student with different genders, age, educational levels, and fields of study have no different attitudes towards corruptions. The acknowledgement of information related to corruption such as participating in activities relating to corruption also cannot cause students to have different attitude towards corruption. 3. Research result reveals that having knowledge about corruption can cause students to have same attitudes towards corruption at a significant level of .05 (t = -5.81). Moreover, knowing which actions or behaviors are considered as corruption can also cause students to have same attitudes towards corruption at a significant level of .05 (t = 2.71). The research results create guidelines for building attitudes of students relating to corruption problems in two parts. First, university shall (1) publish or disseminate information, knowledge, and effect of corruption to students, people and society around university and shall hold activities and campaign related to corruption; (2) contain subjects related to corruption in every faculty or encourage lecturers to cultivate corruption problems to students; and (3) shall be a media or center to receive complaints about corruption and then pass through related government agencies. As for recommendations under government agencies part, this research suggests that government agencies shall (1) disseminate, publish information and hold activities and campaigns about disasters of corruption to government officers, people and students so that they can understand and know effect of corruption; (2) encourage people participation in examining and keeping eyes on corruption and (3) be interested in the complaints made by people and shall keep complainer to be in secret, and (4) increase law enforcement and enforce law seriously.
