Abstract:
This research aims at studying attitudes of youths towards same-sex marriage and finding reasons
why they support or oppose same-sex marriage law in order to have legislative know important
information for issuing the law. This research employs mix-methods; quantitative method collected data
from 453 Srinakarintarawirot students of all sexes and genders by online surveys. Qualitative method
collected data by interviewing 15 students. LGBT interviewees were collected by purposive sampling and
male and female interviewees were collected by accidental sampling. The results found that most of the sample group highly agreed on legalizing same-sex marriage in
Thailand. They agreed that all human being whatever sex should have an equal right. Denial of the
recognition of same-sex marriage law is a denial of their fundamental human rights. Moreover, they also
think that if the law is passed, the legislative should issue Same-sex Marriage Bill more than Civil
Partnership Bill for the reason that it grants more rights and benefits of marriage as similar as the
heterosexual couple. They also suggested that legislative should not only issue related laws, but should
also prescribe portion of members of parliament for LGBT so that they can be an MP in order to help
support law for their groups. Government should cooperate with NGOs or LGBT associations to help LGBT
and cooperate with media in creating campaigns so that people will understand them more.
