Abstract:
Provincial inspection was first begun when Prince Damrong became the
Minister of Mahatthai (Civil Affairs). It aimed to organize the provincial
administration into the governance of the Ministry of Mahatthai. Authority and
function of provincial officials were also regulated. Provincial inspection was a
key process of the centralization which helped to change and cancel the old
ruling system and create the understanding of the new system. Thus, the provinces became a part of the kingdom. Provincial inspection also helped to respond to external threats.
