Abstract: In the first two parts of the electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter design series, the conducted EMI generation mechanism and the method on the measurement of noise source impedances of a switched-mode power supply were described. In this final part, the selection of filter topology for optimal performance is explained. With good accuracy of both amplitude and phase of termination impedances, an EMI filter can be designed systematically to give optimal performance. © 2012 IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Magazine.
