Abstract: Human height is significant information for human gait recognition. In this paper, we proposed a new method to measure the human height by using square template. This method consists of four step: image acquisition, template matching, background subtraction and human height measurement. First, human gait is captured. Square template is fixed on floor. Second, template matching is used to detect square template position. Third, background subtraction is used to extract human. Finally, based on human position relating the square template, a size of pixel is used to compute a human height. To test the performance of the proposed method, accuracy rate of height measurement is measured. 405 picture of 27 volunteers were used in the experiment. The average accuracy is 96.32% at 5th position. This technique can be applied to use for human gait recognition. © 2018 IEEE.
